My motivation

This Movember, we’re growing mustaches for my brother Tom.

My big brother Tom passed this year because of HPV cancer. HPV affects 4 in 5 men and women, and 1 in 55 men will develop head and neck cancer. In the last 10 years there has been a 100% increase. And it’s actually preventable through vaccination but most of us don't know, as the government vaccination programme was stopped years back.

So, we, the Tom’s Tashes team, made up of friends and family are here raising awareness of this cancer and are raising funds to fight it.

We’d done Movember with Tom before, never quite fully committing, but somehow always rocking up at Christmas with a questionable tash that made us laugh. This year, though, it means something more.

I don’t want Tom gone nor forgotten. I thought it fun to keep him, his story alive through the banter of our whiskers and if we can raise a bit of money through it all to prevent this happening again why not.

So here’s to Tom, my brother and our friend Tom who often enjoyed a mustache too.
