My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Prostate cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

During my secondary school years, from Year 9 to Year 11, I struggled deeply with my mental health. I was judged, discriminated against, and bullied by school authorities—people who should have been a source of support. I kept my struggles to myself and never shared how I was feeling with my family. Over time, this isolation led me down a dark path, and I found myself wanting and trying to take my own life more than once. The school I attended, where I should have felt safe and supported, offered little to no help, and for my own safety, I had to be taken out of school for some periods of time and in the end I ultimately had to leave.

After leaving GCSEs behind, I finally felt a sense of freedom after three years of silent suffering. I moved to a new school for my A-levels, and it completely transformed my life. I was surrounded by supportive friends and teachers who genuinely cared about my well-being. On more than one occasion, when I hit low points, they would sit with me for hours, sometimes just chatting, even about something as simple as films. The environment was one where I finally felt understood, accepted, and encouraged to thrive by my peers and teachers. For that I thank Hurtwood House for all the support and memories it gave me.

It’s this experience that drives me to raise awareness for men's mental health, particularly for young people in schools. Every student should feel like they have a safe space to talk about their feelings, without fear of being judged or pressured into conforming to stereotypes like I was at a younger age. I know firsthand how dangerous it can be to bottle up emotions, especially when the world tells you that "men don't talk." That narrative needs to change. Men need to talk to one another. We all deserve to be heard.

You deserved to be supported then Raffie - I’m so sorry you were unheard for so long. No one deserves that.
You can change the conversation and the narrative around men’s mental health. So proud of you for doing this.

Get it gone

32 Week(s) Ago

Twas the night before Movember, when all through the land,
Not a whisker was stirring, not one single strand.
The razors were readied by the sink with care,
In hopes that a smooth-to-be face would soon be there.
The Mo Bros and Sisters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Mo glory ran through their heads.

Yes folks, the hairiest month of the year begins TOMORROW!!

Hopefully all the plans for your team’s campaigns are in place, and if not – there is still time to recruit, make plans and build hype. Last year the sports challenge made a serious impact, and we’re gonna do it all again this year.
