Our Motivation

Hundreds of thousands of men who work every day to bring food and medicine to those in need are disproportianetly affected by Mental Health problems and Suicide Ideation: Seafarers. Spending most of their time far from home, not always able to reach their families and facing the dangers posed by the sea, seafarers are often affected by Mental Health problems and Suicide Ideation. This year we are raising awareness and funds for these key workers who suffer the most. Donate and join Movember - Grow a Mo, Save a Bro.

Several members of CCL staff on board and on shore are joining Movember to raise awareness and funds for Mental Health Problems and Suicide Prevention among men, and today we present one of those men, AB Luther Manzano.
Ab Luther Manzano works as a cook and AB on board our MV NOEST and he experiences first hand the hardships of working on board, which make seafaring one of the more challenging jobs regarding mental health.
He is part of the Casper Chartering Team for Movember and he helped us raising GBP 510 so far.
Be like Mo Bro Manzano, join Movember this year, and donate via Casper Chartering Team.

In this last of week of Movember, we highlight the work of Seafarers Trust. The Seafarers’ Trust is a UK charity founded in 1981, which funds programmes that advance the wellbeing of maritime workers, seafarers and their families.
Among other initiatives related with Mental Health on board, the Seafarers Trust is involved in the Seafarers Health Information Program (SHIP), which provides practical support and guidance for seafarers in order to stay healthy.

We could not pass Movember without highlighting the good work of Mission to Seafarers regarding Mental Health on board.
Founded in the UK in 1856, the Mission to Seafarers has a network of over 120 Seafarers Centres, which offer communication facilities, rest and relaxation areas and in some cases accommodation. The port chaplains of the Mission to Seafarers are professionally trained in advanced mental health care and post-traumatic stress counselling.

Another outstanding charity that we decided to promote as part of our Movember campaign this month is the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN).
ISWAN is a membership organisation which works to promote and support the welfare of seafarers all over the world, with several initiatives focused on Mental Health on board. Among those initiatives we can highlight their 24 hours multilingual helpline – Seafarers Help.

Besides the Movember Foundation, there are other outstanding charities devoted to raise awareness and funds to improve Men's Mental Health and Prevent Suicide. Some of them are focused on tackling said problems on board vessels, and we will promote their work this month.
One of those charities is Seafarers UK, a UK based grant-making charity, whose aim is to raise funds to support projects that aim to support seafarers in need, namely struggling with Mental Health problems.
To know more about Seafarers UK history and the projects they fund, please visit their website and don't forget to donate.
