Men's health

Growing up I loved Greek mythology (it's where Kratos came from) and I always loved the story of Milo of Croton a legendary Greek wrestler from the 6th century BC, famous for his unmatched strength and six Olympic victories. Every day, Milo would carry a newborn calf on his shoulders. As the calf grew into a full-grown bull over the years, Milo grew stronger alongside it—never noticing the daily increase in weight. By the end, he could carry a massive bull with ease, a feat that seemed impossible at the start.
This simple act of daily persistence made him one of the strongest men in history—a perfect metaphor for building resilience, one small step at a time.

On October 25th I turn 38 and this year I wanted to do something special. With the story of Milo of Croton in mind, I have come up with a 365-day burpee challenge to raise funds and awareness for men's mental health.
I'll do 1 burpee on Day 1, 2 on Day 2, up to 365 on Day 365. This will come to a total of 66,795 burpees for the year!

This may not seem like a particularly hard challenge for many, but those who know me know how much I hate burpees. I have also done VERY little training over the past few years and after battling with my own mental health struggles in recent times and the past, this challenge is my way to channel that pain into purpose: sparking vital conversations about men's mental health, a cause close to my heart.

The statistics are stark: In the UK, 14 men die by suicide every day. Three times as many men as women take their own lives, with rates highest among those aged 40-54. Yet, stigma keeps too many silent. Small, consistent actions—like Milo's calf or these daily burpees—can build resilience and hopefully remind us that seeking help saves lives.

I'll post my burpee sessions daily on Instagram for accountability, sharing my efforts in an attempt to inspire openness and spark conversation.

Hey Mike.

Ive just heard today that a friend from the gym has committed suicide. I have seen in the gym so many times over Christmas training and he seemed so happy and 'normal'.

I was waiting to donate until further down the line when this got a really tough challenge for you... but this has just made me want to donate now. Its so very important. Keep it up

I received a winter fuel payment which I don’t really need. I had decided that anything I got would go to charity. So here is half of it.
