My motivation

I’m taking on my first ever marathon in New York City for Movember. It’s a huge personal challenge, but also about supporting men’s health.

I’ve experienced my own challenges with poor mental health and know how important it is that everyone feels able to speak openly and ask for support. Too often, stigma still exists around these conversations, and breaking that down is more important than ever.

This cause has also touched my life recently through the loss of a close family friend, Tim. Tim did reach out and was trying to get the support he needed, which is an important reminder that we must ensure the right help is there for those who ask for it. His story is a big reason why I feel strongly about supporting Movember and raising awareness around men’s mental health.

Movember’s work in prostate cancer also means a lot to me, as my grandad has been affected. Supporting research, raising awareness, and encouraging early detection are causes I feel strongly about, and I want to do my part to help make a difference.

Running has changed my life. There was a time I struggled to even run 1km. Through consistency and determination, I’ve built up to regularly running 10km and ran a few half marathons. Taking on a marathon now feels like the natural next step an exciting challenge for me.
