Having been on a journey over the last few years with suspected prostate cancer, that for me had a happy ending, I'm acutely aware of those not so lucky. Particularly those who don't find out until the disease has already reached stage four.
It's critical that we raise awareness that men need to be thinking of screening as they approach 50 or sooner if there is a history of prostate cancer in their family or they are of African descent.
It's also important that further research is conducted aimed at improving the accuracy of prostate cancer diagnosis screening techniques to reduce the number of biopsies necessary, which themselves are not without risk.
