My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Testicular cancer

10 years ago Movember helped to save my life by giving me the courage to talk about a lump that turned out to be testicular cancer. The quick diagnosis meant surgery sorted it without the need for chemo or radiotherapy.

My mental struggles continued unknown to me for ages. Eventually my wife persuaded me to talk about it with a counsellor, helping me to come to terms with the impact it had on me, and recognise the effect it had on my friends and family too.

We all need to support each other and raise awareness of men's physical and mental health issues. Movember helps us all to do that in our own ways.

The update from work is 120 Backbasers participating in the Strava Movember challenge (about 10% of total Backbasers, pretty cool!), a total of 5361km was covered in a variety of different ways of exercising. This is the equivalent of around 127 marathons!

We ALSO climbed 30,339 metres! :Which is the equivalent to climbing Everest 3 times, OR about 100 times the Eiffel Tower!

Tomorrow is the last day of Movember and it has been a momentus one (see what I did there?).

I am hoping to finish with a ride on Zwift up to the top Ventop of 1500m and end on a high (see what I did there again?) and complete 10000km of climbing in the month. Hopefully I will feel OK to do that tomorrow as I had my Covid booster yesterday and am feeling a bit sore from it, but it is far, far better to stay safe and healthy.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Movember and me, and thank you to everyone who is looking after themselves and checking up on their mates. Stay safe, ride up!

This evening I made it to the summit of my Movember Everest challenge. I am on top of the world to have made it and have another challenge to see if I can make before the end of the month (watch this space).

I hope I have inspired people to think about men's health, look out for each other. Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of my cancer diagnosis and I am grateful that I found the lump in my balls when I did as it was an easy fix and I am still here to spend time with my friends and family.

Ride on everyone, stay safe, look after yourself and each other.

I have been mashing out the metres again this weekend in my challenge to climb Everest for #Movember, and so far got to 6922m. Makes me think that somewhere in the world a man dies of suicide every 60 seconds. Look after each other.

Here I am, halfway through the month, halfway up Everest.

33 Week(s) Ago

This week hasn’t been the productive set of rides I had planned. But I have climbed the equivalent height of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and so crested the highest mountain in Wales and England. It goes to show that despite the best plans, with some inspection and adaptation and a dose of determination you can still achieve some results. I am not on track for where I wanted to be ideally but happy that I am making progress.
