My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Mental health and suicide prevention

Hello friends, me again.

Once again I’ll be growing a travesty of a moustache for a fantastic cause supporting Men's Mental Health.

Last year, you helped me raise £2859. This was special because I only started fundraising from November 19th due to my own mental health struggles at the time.

BUT in just 11 days you helped me:

- smash my £2,500 target
- reach my highest ever amount raised
- Finish the within the Top 100 UK Individual Fundraisers for 2023 (96th)

I have set a target of £1443 this year. At first this may seem like an odd number (it literally is, ba dum tis) but there's a very good reason why I've chosen it.

If I hit £1443, it will mean I've raised a grand total of £10,000 as an Individual for Movember since I started in 2017!

This would be an incredible milestone for me personally, but the credit will be to all of you who have and continue to support me each year.

This year I will be continuing my video series and share some more of my own stories, but I would love to be able help others share theirs too. If you'd be interested in doing this with me, drop me a message!

As many of you may already know, this year has been a very tough one for me, possibly the hardest year of my life so far. I have faced a lot of tough mental battles have struggled at times to be the happy, handsome and hilarious guy you all know me as.

But last year made me realise that whilst my battles were unique to me, I was far from unique in my mental health struggles.

I was so surprised by how many people, especially men, from across my life reached out to me talking about their own struggles they had faced past and present.

Men's Mental health is so close to my heart not just because of my own experiences, but because I know all of us, especially men, can go through these battles far more often and severely than you may think.

I also know how hard men find it open up and talk about it; I still struggle too. The impact this can have on us leads to struggling in silence, which can lead to more severe mental illnesses, and very sadly costs some of us our lives

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Help me stop men dying too young.

I have sadly had to experience this personally after my good friend and former housemate, Ryan, lost his life following difficulties with his own mental health in 2020.

So please donate if you can, and help me hit £10k!

Thank you!

I absolutely love the content make and the work that you do to promote men’s mental health. It’s a massive issue that can be hard for men to open up about but little by little we are slowly making a difference! Keep up the good work and fingers crossed you make it to the £10k!!! I think I’m going to keep my ‘tache up until Christmas!

Jim’s Stories: 2024

In my first video of the year I share stories about the challenges Ive faced in 2024, how they impacted me, and how we can all help each other

Help me hit £10,000!

This year, if I hit my target of £1443, it will mean as an individual you would’ve helped me to raise £10,000 in total for Movember since I started in 2017.

(Even more including the various teams I have been a part of in that time too!)

This will be an incredible milestone to achieve, with nearly £9k of it being raised since 2020

Any donation big or small is gratefully received as you help me fight the stigma of mental health and get people talking

Thank you!

Hello all, this is my (and ever so slightly late) final video for Movember this year. In this video I talk about my experiences with dating and relationships

I wanted to share my experiences because it is something I’ve never quite been able to get right, and it is something that at times I’ve let chip away at me on the inside.

In this video I open up about some of my characteristics and how they have potentially contributed to my experience, how I’ve struggled with dealing with rejection mentally in the past, and why I think being comfortable for couples/dates to talk and listen to one another is so important.

And that’s a wrap for #Movember this year! Thank you all for your support!

Movember 2023: Jim tries stand up

Mild NSFW warning

Here’s my full stand up from yesterday as my final Movember dare.

First time I’ve ever done stand up, and the audience was maybe 90% people I knew, but I really enjoyed it. Thank you to all those who came along!

Listen to some light hearted jokes on topics such as astrology, international war crimes, and something I call “the gay defence”.

Might do it again, who knows?

Still loads of time to donate as Movember wraps up for another year!

Much love

Jimbo

*got lost in the moment and accidentally went on for too long so last joke was half done

Movember 2023: Jim’s Stories - 3. Somebody to Lean on

I was going to save this video for the end of Movember, but your support and generosity for my fundraising so far has been incredible, so I thought I would do it now.

In this video, I share with you why I do Movember, and why I have done the various things I’ve done to raise money over the years.

I’ll also share with you some of the support I’ve received from you since I started fundraising this year.
So many people from all walks of life have reached out to me this year opening up about their experiences with their own mental health. It warms my heart to know that my message is reaching people and they feel comfortable enough to start opening up to others.

However, I am sure for everyone that’s messaged me there’s many more still trying to get to that first step. There is still a long way to go and plenty to do on this journey, but we’ll do it together one step at a time.
You all so far have helped me get past the 70% mark of my fundraising target in just 4 days, which I never expected. Hopefully I have helped you not to feel afraid to talk about difficult things.

Please watch and share, and if you can help me get that last 30%.

Thank you all once again ❤️

Much love
Jim

Movember 2023: Jim’s stories - 2. the elephant in the room

This is my first full video of the series and within it I discuss my recent experiences and battles with my mental health.

In October I was diagnosed with Depression after a long period of not feeling like myself. Beforehand I had been in a lot of denial about it and thought I just needed sleep, but the signs became increasingly obvious to everyone except me.

As you can probably tell, this was a really tricky video to film. I want to show you how hard it can be even for someone who advocates for it as much as I do to be open about things you think you could be judged negatively for. However, I found 2 things after I opened up:

1. You’re not alone, there are so many people who go through similar things
2. Your support network is so much bigger than you think it is.

Please watch and share this video, and if you can please help me reach my £2.5k goal this year, link to .

Thank you!
Jim

The last Movember Dare:
Jim tries Stand Up
DATE CONFIRMED

hello all, as promised I finally have a date and time for stand up

Was a bit tricky to find a place but I will be performing on Tuesday 28th at the Lions Den (Bar Rumba) in the appropriately named “Comedy Car Crash” Show

It is an open mic night and order is random so not sure exactly when in the eve, but will be loads of acts so probably be a good time

Ticket are £5 on the door and open from 6:30, show starts at 7:30

Hopefully see as many of you there as possible!

Sadly there’ll be no dares this year, but instead I’ll be releasing a series of videos talking about my own mental health and experiences

The topics aren’t easy to speak about so openly but if I can be open about my own mental health to the world, people can hopefully be open about their own to others with comfort, and we can get rid of the stigma that surrounds it.

At the University of Exeter, I'm trying to remove the stigma of mental health and encourage openess. This is the first video of my series, and each week a new athelte will be talking about their own personal experiences.
