Our Motivation

Every minute, somewhere in the world, a man dies by suicide

Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 12,000 men every year.

Watch Commander Stephen Lyons, Crew Commander Marc McGarrity, Firefighter Mark Armstrong, Firefighter Duncan MacDougall and Firefighter Ryan Howie are raising awareness and funds this Movember for men's health - specifically prostate cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. We are supporting all the grandads, dads, brothers, sons and mates in our lives. We need your help and any donation is really appreciated. Please donate to show your support for Red Watch at Port Glasgow Fire Station.

To everyone who has donated to our Port Glasgow Red Watch Movember campaign, myself and the rest of my watch would like to say thank you so much for supporting us and supporting what we were trying to raise funds for which was prostate cancer and more importantly suicide awareness. This year it has affected myself and my family really hard.

My Brother-in-law Robert Montgomery ❤️ sadly taken his own life at the age of 27 on the 2nd November this year. Me and my watch wanted to show how important it is to make sure not just Men but anyone in our lives are not alone and if you feel anyone in your life is going through what Robert was going through please be there for them and show them how much they are loved and they will always have the support they need no matter what they are going through. No one should ever feel they are alone.

Myself and my watch in our first year doing Movember have raised £1,065 and if anyone else would like to donate I will send you the link to our page. This is a cause I will be raising funds every year for the rest of my life to make sure everyone is getting the support they need and for no more families to go through what my family is going through.

I would like to say thank you to my friends and work colleagues who have been giving me support and for being there for me just to listen. No words can express how much I can say thank you to you all.

Again big thank you from Marc and the rest of Port Glasgow Red Watch
