Our Motivation

Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects. And with our support, it will continue to break new ground across mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

On average men die 6 years earlier than women – most of the reasons for this are preventable.

9.9 million men are living with and beyond prostate cancer which is as sizeable an issue for men as breast cancer is for women, yet until recently it has received far less attention. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. If you are 50 or above you should be talking to your doctor about PSA testing, if you are African or Caribbean in descent, or have a brother or father with prostate cancer in their history have the conversation at 45. The PSA is non invasive and involves a small blood test so no doctors in examination gloves!

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, 66000 men are diagnosed every year with rates doubling over the last 50 years. 83% of men are not aware of the risk, 44% of men are unaware of how to perform a self-examination. Early detection sees a 95%+ survival rate. If your father had it, the risk increases by 4 times, your brother? 8 times. If you don’t know your family history – find out!

Globally 1 man takes his own life every minute. Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 15-49 in the UK and 15-29 globally, 3 out of 4 suicides are men. For every suicide there are 20 attempts.

Movember’s mission is to have all men feeling mentally healthy, this is vitally important as it is arguably the biggest issue impacting men today. We have to take action to reduce the rate of male suicide, bringing the issue out of the shadows and shining a light on it, ensuring men know how to recognise signs of distress, how to take action and where they can go for support.

Together, we can create greater impact. So please help kick start our fundraising campaign – and let’s change the face of men’s health.

What a fantastic response! We are absolutely blown away by how you have all reacted and the money you have already donated.
We set ourselves a target of £1000 for the whole challenge. I didn't expect to be reaching it if i'm honest...yet we have already exceeded it after only a week!
We have now upped our target to £1500 and will keep going as high as possible.
Thank you all for your donations and support. We truly are making a difference to men's health with these efforts.
Thank you
