Our Motivation

The University of Bristol Boat Club is proud to be supporting @movember + @movemberbristol once again.

At present, men are dying at an average of 5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. The three biggest health issues men face are testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health issues. 10.8 million men across the world are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. Across the world, we lose one man a minute to suicide, which accounts for 75% of all suicides. By 2030, Movember aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%, and you can visit their website to find out more about how this will be achieved.

This month we’ll be focusing on the issues that affect many of the men in our lives but are so often not spoken about until it’s too late.

We’ll be taking part in a twenty four hour erg challenge as part of our fundraising effort! There will be not one, not two but three ergs running continuously with UBBC athletes over a full day on the 20th of November.
