Since launching a three-year partnership in 2018, the teams from Mo HQ and Twickenham Stoop have been beavering away raising funds to deliver Movember Ahead of the Game, a ground-breaking programme which aims to improve youth mental health through community organised sport.
This December sees the global launch of that programme, as we begin its roll out across Harlequins community rugby clubs. Made up of a series of programs, which have been designed for and by young male athletes, coaches and families, Movember Ahead of the Game uses the entire community around local sports clubs to improve the mental health of adolescent males.
Movember Country Director, Anne-Cecile Berthier said ‘We’re really excited to be launching Movember Ahead of the Game. It’s an incredible programme that will hopefully impact thousands of young athletes, coaches and parents across the UK. We are thrilled to be working with The Harlequins Foundation as our first partner for the programme, as they have such a passionate community and supporter base to help bring it to life”.
Ahead of the launch, Harlequins stars Chris Robshaw and Marcus Smith went along to meet some of the lads who’ll be going through the programme to chat about the importance of teammates, family, friends and to put the boys through their paces on the training field. Watch video.
Chris Robshaw said “I am proud to be the face of The Harlequins Foundation and Movember’s Ahead of the Game programme, improving the mental health of young men in our community is a hugely positive goal. I am sure it will have a long term and lasting impact on men’s health’’.
