We'd like to let you know about an opportunity to hear about one of the programmes from across the pond in Canada, awarded as part of the 2014 Canadian Men’s Health and Wellbeing Innovation Challenge. The project has been brought to the UK by the Canadian High Commission and will be hosted at Canada House as part of the 'lestweforget!CANADA' commemorations for 2015.

The programme focuses on military veterans who often experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), major depression and an increased risk of suicide upon returning home. The project aims to address these after-effects through teamwork, camaraderie and art. Building on the idea that men share more when working with their hands, the project had veterans hand-craft a tribute pole in memory of those who lost their lives in the Afghanistan war. The pole itself is made out of two coffins, and features carvings of the first names and rankings of the 158 Canadian soldiers who didn’t return.

Through drama, painting, music and art, Man/Art/Action gave veterans the opportunity to publicly reinterpret their experiences and resiliently transition back into civilian life. Through the Movember Foundation this learnings from the programme are also being piloted and formally evaluated in college men and men recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

If you'd like to hear more about this project and the work of the Movember Foundation then please join us on Thursday 12th November from 3-5pm at Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London. Note that all visitors to Canada House are required to register in advance and present valid photo identification. Please email aletheia@movember.com to add your name to the guest list.
