My motivation

I first met Vince in the late 90's. At that time I shared a house with my brother, Stuart, and our mate, Russ. Vince was our neighbour Paul's best mate. A lot of our time was spent socialising in local pubs, Goldington Road on Saturday afternoons (remember when Bedford Blues were in the Premiership?!) and Thursday night football at Rutherford.
We were all young, living for the moment, seemingly not a care in the world. But times change.
Vince was one of the first of us to become a father. Around the same time I moved to Milton Keynes. I still saw him at football, but I eventually stopped travelling over, and I saw him less socially.
It was a warm and bright day at the end of March. I was driving home from a client when my phone kept bleeping with notifications. A half glance at my Garmin told me little. I was only a minute from home, but I pulled over and read the news from my brother that Vince had taken his own life. it was such a gut punch. Writing this hurts as I recall the sadness and devastation I felt. None of us knew he was struggling with his mental health. Why would we? Some men are able to open up, but for many it is so internalised that opening up doesn't happen.
Vince isn't that first friend to have taken his own life. Sadly he probably won't be the last. But I will do my best to stop that happening.
Help me make a difference in his memory.

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young. Help me help other families so they don't have to go through the pain and anguish that Sally, Ella, and all our friends have endured this year

Hi Gareth,

Thank you for signing up for Movember 2022, it’s great to have you back on board! Last year you were one of our Platinum Club legends and we can’t thank you enough for your amazing support.

Your fundraising means we were able to invest £5.7M million in Scaling What Works; a grant programme that aims to supercharge mental health initiatives that have shown real promise in improving mental health and wellbeing for young boys and men, across communities.

If there is anything we can do to help make this Movember a success, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I hope you have a great month!

You guys ROCK!
Already smashed my £100 target, so I’m going to raise that to £250

Not a smiley photo, but one from a post I made earlier about emotions and being okay with crying (after I watched an incredibly emotive short film

Shocking lack of exercise today, just a bit of a play in the gym. Didn’t have the energy because not going to sleep early enough.
What I did do though, was hang out with friends at networking.
There is more to good health than just exercise !

Day two. Early start for Sheringham parkrun, totally overheated, which was funny as most of the rest of the country was stuck in storm. Lovely evening meal at Rocky Bottoms

Wow!
So I set this up and started sharing yesterday 31/10 and already have donations! Thank you Vijay and Hannah.
I have somehow managed to set up two donation pots on Facebook that don’t appear to link. Will try and figure it out, but in effect I already have £60 so will be upping my £100 target.

Day One.

I have cheated. Hadn’t shaved since Monday so a bit of growth that I left on my upper lip.
Watched the rugby. Didn’t get upset, but wasn’t exactly relaxed as we under-performed, stood up for most of the second half.
Felt pretty chilled out, relaxing day on the coast, enjoying the beauty of just being in the moment.

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
