My mo’tivation is really quite simple - to highlight the importance of men standing up and taking responsibility for the health of our mates, and our own health.
We are all in a position to be a messenger for men’s health, whether you’re a Mo Sister who is Moving for Movember, or a Mo Bro growing a terrible moustache like me.
I’ve learnt over my Movembers that one person can make a hell of a difference. Together, we are literally changing the face of men’s health through the funds we raise.
The Movember website has plenty of resources that can help you on your fundraising journey. Have a look, download what you need and chuck it up on your socials to help raise awareness about men's health issues, or even cheeky moustache facts
Gents, make a commitment this week to give one of your mates a call and just chat.
Over the past few weeks I’ve caught up with some good friends and one thing was clear - we need to talk more. Time goes so fast, and a few months can go by in the blink of an eye.
During that time so much can happen. It may be good, it may also be bad.
Talk to your mates and talk often. It’ll help to clear your mind, it’s great for your well-being too. I can tell you now, I always feel better after talking to my best mates.
Day 2 of Movember and I want to talk about mental health.
70% of men say their friends can rely on them for support, but only 48% say that they rely on their friends. In other words: we’re here for our mates, but worried about asking for help for ourselves. Reaching out is crucial.
Have open conversations.
You don’t need to be an expert and you don’t have to be the sole solution, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving.
Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up regularly, check in and make time.
Words to live by. It helps to check in with your mates, not only to see how they're doing but also that chat about how you are doing. Don't underestimate the value of man time!!
This is my why - family. I’m incredibly proud of mine and everything I do is for them.
I like to think to myself that I’m incredibly lucky. We’re a happy, healthy family. @shellbutler83 and the boys are fantastic and make me feel complete and whole. I’m nothing without my family.
Both Shell and I try to bring the boys up in an incredibly loving environment where they know that it’s ok to talk about how you feel, how proud we are of them, and how important it is to be healthy.
