Happy November everybody!
This is my face. It’s the first time in 10 years that you can see the whole it. I feel naked… and very young.
Over the course of November I shall be growing a filthy moustache to adorn this baby face. A tradition which dates back to biblical times, know as ‘Movember’

And why am I doing this hideous disservice to a face I was honestly pretty happy with? It’s to raise money for men’s mental health.

Now honestly, it feels difficult for me to say that this is the best cause to support. There are so many causes that I’m also passionate about and honestly it feels pretty shitty to pick ‘men’s’ mental health - in a world that’s still male dominated with pay gaps and discrimination still in favour of men.
So, why this cause? Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50. Mental health to this day is still stigmatised and a shameful thing to discuss, especially in men, who are still told to ‘man up’ and hide their feelings.
I’m doing this to open up about my own mental health struggles over the years with bouts of depression and anxiety visiting on a few occasions.

But mostly I’m doing this for the memory of one of the best friends I ever had, who took his own life a few years back. Nathan was the cheekiest of chaps, would always make you giggle and really cared for your well being. The hole I still feel in my life from his absence still brings me to tears. The recognition of the pain he must have been in those final moments utterly devastates me.
