Testicular cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

Eleven years ago I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Thanks to awareness campaigns like Movember and amazing support and treatment from the NHS, I have since made a full recovery.

My diagnosis came on the first day of my core-module exams while studying the LPC - the second and final year of law school. I was so focused on my exams that I hadn't realised why the doctor was calling. The doctor asked me to come in to discuss some results, but as I had forgotten that I had even had some routine checks on my 'chaps', I wasn't expecting news - good or bad.

I said that I would have to come in next week, as I was in the middle of taking my final law school exams. The doctor insisted; it wasn't until the third time of insisting that I realised that something must really be wrong.

My cancer diagnosis hit me like a train - as I suspect it does to everyone who receives one. The fact is however, that I consider myself hugely fortunate. Testicular cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers in young men - but it is also the most treatable. Nine years later, and I am no longer a patient of oncology - considered cured of the disease. By raising awareness, removing stigma from getting yourself checked if you are concerned and getting treatment early - most lives can be saved.

Movember is working to halve the number of deaths from testicular cancer by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young.
