£85

Target: £150
Jonathan has raised £480 since 2014.
My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

I'm planning to grow a moustache and take it for a 150 kilometres of walks and runs in November 2020 in memory of my father-in-law.

In June 2014 I was told I had prostate cancer. The diagnosis was later proven to be wrong, but not before I'd learned a little about the cascade of emotions such news causes. A year later my father-in-law lost his long fight with prostate cancer and I saw at first hand what this disease can do to a fit, strong man. I don't want others to suffer the same way if it can be avoided.

How I'm
getting involved
108.34 km of 150 km
I'm aiming to walk or run 150 kilometres over November 2020 in memory of my father-in-law.

Here's the latest image of the horrific growth on my top lip - you can see why my wife complains of pogonophobia.

But it is worst than that - I've been struck by the Curse of the Exploding Knee Cap!

I've been having a few warning twinges from my left knee for a few weeks now and today this transmogrified into continuous pain - of course at exactly the point when I was furthest from home. Eight hours later and I have a very swollen leg. Damn annoying, since I've only been doing fractionally more mileage than normal. Do I get extra donations if I hop the remaining 42 km?

So, more than a week into Movember and my wife (who doesn't follow me on social media) has only just noticed that I'm growing a moustache... I'm not sure if she needs new glasses, or whether it's just that she can't bear to look at me. She claims the latter. Either way, I'm certain that it is nothing to do with the hair on my upper lip being rather whiter and perhaps a little sparser than previous years...

Only a short walk today between meetings. :0(

I thought I should share with you the luxuriant growth on my upper lip after only five days. So here's a selfie from today's Movember walk. Oh... wait...

First day of Movember and a quick photo to prove how lovely and smooth my upper lip is... what? Oh, OK... well it's smooth anyway.

Untidy, unsightly, and unnecessary... but enough about me. Today the moustache was to come off... but you know, now I'm having second thoughts...

End of week 4 report. A total of 212 km walked and £90 raised. I've really enjoyed the motivation to get out and do a bit more walking, and it has done wonders for the backlog on my podcast playlist. My right little toe has seen better days however.

I'm really looking forward to getting rid of this moustache on Sunday. I visited hospital today for a anticoagulant test. Two nurses came into the waiting room and one said to the other

"You take the lady, I'll take the old man."

I looked around to see where the old man was, but there was nobody else there...

Now well into the last week of dragging this monstrosity around the cold, wet, streets of London. Just getting to the stage now where I'll be glad to get rid of this soup-strainer - Dawn expressed the same opinion about 25 days ago.

Half way (ish) through Movember and I've carried the heavy burden of my somewhat bedraggled moustache across 109 of the 120 planned kilometres, and am incredible pleased to have received two thirds of the donations needed to hit my target. Apart from one blister where my right little toe is supposed to be it has been incredibly fun.

I'm sure it wasn't so white last time...

Do they do Grecian 2000 for moustaches?

First weekly status report - £60 raised (Thank-you!) and proto-moustache taken on 41 km of walks around exotic Romford.

I've been using a stand-alone GPS to track my walking as the Fitbit over-estimates the mileage - must be all that wandering around the kitchen looking for a late night biscuit. The challenge has prompted me to take a few kilometres walk after dinner in the evening which has proven good for the digestion and my podcast backlog.

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
