Why I Mo: Georgie Padley

2 minutes read time

Earlier this year, Georgie's dad sadly took his own life after a period of depression.

Georgie has decided to walk the entire South West Coast Path (over 1000km) in his memory, and to raise awareness of male mental health and, in particular, male suicide.

“Dad had a history of depression throughout his adult life. My family and I weren’t aware quite how low he was and the last thing we ever expected him to do is do what he did.

I think he was trying to protect us in not voicing his feelings - he was very proud and I think it did him more harm than good in the end.

" I think he was trying to protect us in not voicing his feelings - he was very proud and I think it did him more harm than good in the end. "

I am walking the entire South West coastal path, which is 1,014 km long, and will take 56 days, for Movember. My dad himself he loved walking, we had a lot of really nice holidays in the Lake District, so it felt right to do this in his memory.

Part of what we’re trying to do here is to raise awareness of this issue and get men to feel comfortable talking about their mental health more openly to prevent complete tragedies like this happening.”
