Mo Maker: Joe Adcock

Joe Adcock is a Maker.

Despite being a Mo Bro for four years, this Movember he’s chosen to actively seek sponsorship for his Mo growth, and go about it in a totally unique way by aiming to travel 6,000 miles during the month.

A website developer by trade, Joe has built a Movember-themed website from scratch, which allowed friends, family, colleagues and strangers to nominate him to travel a different specific point each day (in six different European cities) during the 30 days of Movember.

Now for the clever bit: each day, Joe wakes up not knowing where he has to travel to that day. His site is programmed to know which city he’ll be in, and then pulls a nominated landmark from the database. After that, Joe then has until 11:59pm that day to get to the nominated location, take a photograph of himself and his Mo, and upload it to Instagram. So far, Mo Miles has seen him travel to Copenhagen, Berlin, Barcelona and London, with two more cities on the cards.

He’s also developed a unique way to generate funds: as well as asking people to donate to his Mo Space, Joe is also matching donations left to him on his Mo Space by the people who nominate a landmark, and also adding penalty donations if he misses his time targets.

But for Joe, it’s not all about raising money; it’s also about spreading awareness and getting as many people as possible talking about Movember:

“My thinking is that I want to show that visitors to the site - whether they are nominators, donators, or just people who want to see my face each day, that this adventure is about them just as much as me, or more so.”
