The inaugural L’Eroica Britannia Festival kicked off the summer last weekend, bringing the original and legendary vintage bicycle race of Italy to the green and pleasant lands of Derbyshire. We were there as Team Movember, sending 10 heroic riders into the hills to pit themselves against the ups and downs of some truly testing terrain (they don’t call it the Peak District for nothing). All on pre-1987 bikes.
As we are the official charity partner of the event, we were there to spread the word about men’s health from a reconditioned horsebox (courtesy of our mates at mycoolholiday), giving out free shaves in our barber’s chair, offering comfy armchairs to relax and talk in, a ping pong table, great DJ sets and free shaving gear and compliments for moustaches. And thanks to our friends at Brooks we were able to run a competition for one lucky Mo Bro or Mo Sista to win a custom Brooks / Movember Saddle which is currently being designed. It’s going to look beautiful.
The festival also saw music, food, drinks, fun and plenty of out-of-season Mo’s. The weather could not have been better for the thousands of cycle fans and festival goers alike who came from far and wide to celebrate the bicycle in all it’s classic glory. The stalls reflected the vibe, with vintage clothes tents, bespoke bicycles stores, local foodstuffs and produce on sale, all doing booming business and providing a unique experience for all.
It was a brilliant weekend and we salute our friends at L’Eroica Britannia for setting up such an incredible event. As they describe it – the most handsome bike ride. It is bound to return next year; even bigger, bolder and hairier.
