Where The Money Goes

Working with our men’s health partner Prostate Cancer UK, this year your funds have fuelled 17 Project Grants and Pilot Awards at leading research institutions across the UK. This funding focuses on three priority areas that have been identified as the most significant challenges in prostate cancer research. These include:

    •    Distinguishing between aggressive and non-aggressive prostate cancer
    •    Identifying men at higher risk
    •    Finding new treatment methods for advanced prostate cancer

Each funding opportunity asked that researchers address one of these issues.

What are Project Grants and Pilot Awards?
Projects Grants have been awarded for up to a three-year period and were available to researchers who have a strong track record in their field.
Pilot Awards were also awarded to researchers who have significant knowledge and expertise in their areas, but these are lower investments and shorter-term research projects, which specifically open up new lines of investigation. Addressing new methodologies and ‘piloting’ new ideas is a vital part of the research process.

One of the 17 projects comes from Professor Colin Cooper at the University of East Anglia. His team are studying current prostate cancer treatments with the hope of creating an entirely new approach to fighting the disease that will hopefully have a higher success rate and extend the lives of patients.

The other 16 grants have been awarded at research institutions across the UK including Cardiff University, Queen Mary University of London, University of Glasgow, University of Sheffield, University of Southampton and the University of Ulster.

Keep fighting the good fight Mo Bros and Mo Sistas! Thanks for helping us make a difference, and stay tuned for more porjects.
