A big burly van built to get rugby league fans feeling excited (and better equipped) to care for their health is making its debut at the Super League Magic Weekend – in Newcastle this week.

Jump aboard, and you’ll be able to take a selfie in the trophy room, revel in rugby artefacts, line up for a haircut or shave, try your luck at a bunch of games – and of course learn about the importance of men’s health.

Run primarily by Rugby League Cares along with the crew here at the Movember Foundation, Newcastle is just the first rugby-related pitstop for the mighty ManVan. Between May and November of this year, the van will visit a long list of major rugby league events and club matches, encouraging men to take pride in their health – just like rugby legends do.

Many of the towns and cities the ManVan will visit are areas facing serious health challenges – including lower than average life expectancies and higher than average rates of cancer and heart disease.

As we make our way from pitch to pitch, we’ll be arming men with awareness, knowledge and tools to make a positive game plan for their health. The end goal? Help men live their fullest lives, and ultimately stop men dying too young.

Owen Sharp, CEO here at the Movember Foundation, says

“Partnering with Rugby League Cares on this initiative allows us to deliver a fun experience for rugby fans that can also save lives.”

The ManVan will roll up at Strawberry Place (adjacent to St James’s Park) on Magic Weekend (Saturday and Sunday May 19 and 20). Fans from all clubs, of all ages, are guaranteed a warm welcome. Why not come along and tackle the tough stuff?
