Between 2022 and 2023, three players from Seaford Town Football Club were diagnosed with testicular cancer. In a remarkable show of resilience, all three fought through treatment, entered remission, and returned to the pitch to represent their club.
Their battles sparked a wider mission for the club. One that goes far beyond football.
Following the diagnoses, Seaford Town made men's health awareness a core part of its identity. The players became outspoken advocates, bravely sharing their personal stories to help break down stigma around men’s health issues.
Each November, the club dedicates a home game to Movember, inviting charity ambassadors to speak, fundraise, and get people talking. It's become more than a gesture. It's a rallying point for the entire community.
On Saturday, 5th July 2025, a group of club leaders, including the Vice Chairman, First Team Manager, Assistant Manager, Club Captain, and cancer survivor Ollie, took on a brutal 85km trek from Selsey to Seaford. Their goal: raise awareness and vital funds for Movember.
They stopped at rival grounds along the way, sparking conversations, gathering donations, and uniting teams across the league. The response was overwhelming. Clubs welcomed them warmly and helped amplify their message.
Through summer heat, injuries, and exhaustion, the group pushed on through the night, completing their journey in just under 24 hours. The effort was covered live by TalkSport, local media, and even live-streamed by the team themselves.
The result? Over £8,000 raised for Movember. And countless conversations started across the footballing community.
Reflecting on the experience, the team shared:
"Football is a powerful community, and together we can do anything. We spread the word on men's health, with messages and donations coming from as far as Liverpool. People stopped their cars to give us donations after hearing us on TalkSport. We were welcomed at Club Seven at 5am. It was a six-month plan that paid off with an unbelievable outcome: 91km in 23.5 hours.
And our motto: One team. One charity. One purpose. Change the face of men’s health."
Seaford Town continues to lead by example, proving that football is about more than just what happens on the pitch.
