Movember is proud to support the pilot phase of Our Future Health, the UK’s largest ever health research programme which aims to transform the prevention, detection, and treatment of a wide range of diseases.
Our Future Health aims to recruit 5 million adult volunteers, from all backgrounds, to participate in the research programme. By joining the voluntary research programme, people will be able to contribute to the most comprehensive picture of health ever captured in the UK.
Researchers from across academia, industry and the NHS will be able to apply to use Our Future Health data and samples for their crucial research.
Through our support of Our Future Health, we’re sharing our expertise in discovering and developing new methods of early detection and treatment of diseases and health conditions to help them develop the programme.
Our Future Health has initially invited 5,000 members of the public to join the pilot phase of the programme in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, before expanding recruitment across the UK from Spring 2022.
Our Future Health has joined with 16 health research charities that are endorsing the pilot phase of the programme and providing valuable support and experience. These charities have brought their expertise in discovering and developing new methods of early detection and treatment of diseases and health conditions and are helping to develop the programme.
Along with Movember, the other 15 charities endorsing the pilot phase of Our Future Health are: Action Against Age-related Macular Degeneration, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation, Blood Cancer UK, Breast Cancer Now, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Diabetes UK, MS Society, Pancreatic Cancer UK, Parkinson’s UK, Prostate Cancer UK, Stroke Association, and Versus Arthritis.
Professor Sir John Bell, Chair of Our Future Health, said: “Progress in tackling the growing burden of chronic disease depends on strong collaboration across the life sciences sector and health system. We’ve certainly seen how powerful it is during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the rapid development and deployment of vaccines, diagnostic tools and treatments into the NHS at unprecedented speed and scale.”
Jane Fisher, Global Director, Cancer Research and Clinical Trials at Movember said: “Our Future Health provides an unparalleled opportunity to research diseases at a greater scale than ever before. By facilitating breakthroughs in the early detection of disease, this research programme has the potential to improve the long-term health of millions of people across the UK in the future. We’re extremely supportive of this programme and are proud to endorse the pilot phase of this important programme.”
