Movember welcomes the publication of the National Youth Strategy and its focus on improving the wellbeing, safety and life chances of boys and young men. Too many young people are struggling with their mental and physical health, feeling disconnected from support, or navigating online spaces that expose them to harmful content and polarising influences.

Building connections that matter

We are particularly encouraged by the renewed emphasis on delivering the Men's Health Strategy, including investment to help boys and young men build social connections and access local support. This focus on belonging and early intervention aligns closely with Movember's mission to strengthen mental wellbeing and community connection.

Making online spaces safer

The Strategy's approach to online safety; including measures to reduce exposure to harmful content and increase young people's digital and media literacy, is a timely and necessary step. The acknowledgement that online spaces can pose unique risks for boys and young men is especially important and reflects what we see through our own work with young people.

The power of sport to bring people together

Movember is also pleased to see new pathfinder programmes being launched with Rugby League Cares, one of our long-standing partners, using the power of sport to build supportive networks, tackle loneliness and improve wellbeing. We know how impactful sport-based interventions can be, and we welcome the ambition to extend this learning across different sectors and communities.

Every young person needs someone in their corner

We also welcome the Strategy's focus on increasing young people's opportunities to connect with trusted adults - a principle reflected in the Trusted Adult Guarantee coalition, which Movember is part of. Strengthening the relationships around young people plays an important role in supporting their wellbeing and sense of belonging, particularly given the Strategy's recognition that boys and young men are often less likely to have an adult they trust.

Getting support when and where it's needed

The planned expansion of mental health support in schools, colleges and community settings, including improved access to early advice through Young Futures Hubs, represents meaningful progress towards ensuring young people receive help when and where they need it.

Working together for change

Movember looks forward to continuing working with Government, Rugby League Cares and other partners to help ensure every boy and young man has access to trusted adults, supportive communities and the right mental health support to thrive.
