British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Movember have joined forces ahead of the 2025 Movember fundraising campaign to help drive mental health awareness on campuses throughout the UK.
Movember will become BUCS’ Mental Fitness partner, providing support and guidance for students across 155 member institutions.
The Movember campaign has long proved popular among students in the UK, and alongside BUCS, the two organisations can work together to raise much-needed funds and deliver crucial mental health resources and support to active students both through events and digitally.
Launching the partnership, a ‘Five days to Mo’ event, will be held at the University of Newcastle on October 29th. There will be a Movember mobile barber shop on site delivering free Shave Downs in preparation for the hairy month ahead.
On November 5th, teams competing in BUCS’ competition will be encouraged to host a ‘Mental fitness match’, engaging students, spectators and staff with the campaign.
Will Roberts, BUCS CEO said:
“We’re delighted to be working with Movember for the 2025/2026 university year.
Mental health and active wellbeing are intrinsically linked and whether it is through participating in one of our 55 sports or simply by engaging in exercise regularly while at university, we are passionate about the role BUCS can play in supporting students across the country.
Movember is a globally recognised charity, and I can’t wait to see how this new partnership will evolve through supporting our members and participants with fundraising and activations at a grassroots level, as well as through research and development opportunities.”
Paul Williams, Movember’s Director, Men's Health Implementation added:
“University can be an incredible time of growth, but it can also be one of the hardest periods for young men to open up about what they’re going through.
By partnering with BUCS, we want to make it easier for students to take action for their mental health through the power of sport, connecting with their mates and starting conversations that can truly change lives.”
Beyond November, the two organisations will continue to work collaboratively to promote assets and support for students across the country to ensure mental health fitness stays in the spotlight.
They will also develop new research among the student sporting population, creating greater understanding of the challenges being faced for those in the higher education system and how best those needs can be met.
