Since 2003, Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding more than 1,320 projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. We’ve taken on three of the biggest health issues affecting men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Here are 10 men’s health projects made possible, thanks to our amazing Mo community.
As the Official Mental Fitness Partner for the Rugby League World Cup 2021, held in 2022, thousands of teenage rugby league players, their parents, and sports coaches received mental fitness training, through Movember Ahead of The Game workshops. In addition, every elite player, team official, match official, and volunteer was taught how to look after their own mental fitness and the mental fitness of those around them. READ ON.
Earlier this year, results of a trial, co-funded by Movember and the Australian Government, showed that along with surgery, PSMA-targeting therapy, a new type of treatment, is a safe and effective option for men with high-risk localised prostate cancer. READ ON.
The multi-national Scaling What Works grant funding program is aiming to scale up innovative mental health projects including They Call Me Dad and Offload that have shown real promise in improving the mental health and wellbeing of young boys and men in community or workplace settings across the UK.. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men. Our Nuts & Bolts digital resource has been designed to provide user-friendly information and peer-to-peer support for men with testicular cancer following their diagnosis, during and after treatment. FIND OUT MORE.
MovemberSpeakEasy facilitated workshops aim to normalise everyday challenges and encourage everyone to be more open, especially when they are going through a tough time. Designed with men in mind, the 90-minute workshops build skills that foster better social connection and help friends and family to support each other. FIND OUT MORE.
This year Movember launched an ambitious program to determine the best way of preventing the progression of high-risk prostate cancer to advanced, fatal disease. 30 research teams from around the world will work together to identify the best ways of using existing or emerging treatments. READ ON.
Results of a study of Movember’s Men in Mind program - the world’s first online training program for mental health practitioners - has provided strong evidence that the course significantly improves practitioners’ confidence and competence in engaging and working with men, particularly those experiencing suicidal thoughts. Sexual health is not routinely addressed in prostate cancer care. To tackle the problem, Movember supported the Guidelines for Sexual Health Care for Prostate Cancer Patients: Recommendations of an International Panel to help healthcare teams around the world to assess and manage the sexual side effects of prostate cancer therapies. This year we hit a major milestone with the TIGER trial which is seeking to determine the best treatment for men, whose testicular cancer has returned. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our community, this major international collaboration between research teams in the US, Europe, and Australia, has now fully recruited 420 men and boys from around the world.
