Fundraising for cause areas including:

Testicular cancer

Hoping to run 100 miles or more and cycle the rest to 150 miles.

Our 2 year old son, Ted, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma 2 Movember's ago. His determination has inspired me to continue raising awareness wherever I can. I am an ambassador for Candlelighters Children's Cancer Charity in Leeds, having received lots of support from them, along with setting up a team to raise over £34k for their efforts. Due to this, I missed Movember last year to concentrate elsewhere. However, I aim to form a team of cancer dads, and my own friends / family to raise awareness and a few pounds this month.

As a teacher, raising awareness of cancer amongst young men and women is a subject for which I am passionate. Please get involved by joining my team, and / or by sponsoring. And, SPREAD THE WORD!

Hi gents and ladies. As you may have noticed, today is 1st November, and this signifies the beginning of MOvember - the moustache growing month to raise money for men's cancers, research and treatment. This is close to my heart for obvious reasons, and I know it has touched many more of us in various ways with your own personal stories. I had um'd and ah'd whether to take part this year. However, the estate agent selling our house mentioned to me on Saturday that her nephew had died in January. He died from testicular cancer aged 21; he had found a lump but did not tell anyone until it had spread. In truth, raised awareness and STARTING THE CONVERSATION may possibly have saved him. The day before we found Ted's tumour, I had delivered a sermon to a group of year 9 students about Movember, and the fact that now I had a son there is a greater chance men in my life could experience this; haunted as I am from this, Ted is just another number, another story, to highlight the devastating impact of this disease.

Setting up a team is a challenge this year as I haven't got work colleagues. However, I think I have enough contacts to get a few on board! If you are a lady reading this, please urge your partners / sons / fathers to take part - and you can also join as a Mo Sista if you wish. If I can inspire us to another £500 or more for Movember this year I will have done my job. But actually, even if you are not interested - and that is fine - perhaps this email may inspire you to at least have the conversation amongst your household or workplace. Blokes are miles behind the ladies in terms of talking about these issues, and it being 'ok' to check, and to get tested. So many lives needlessly wasted - testicular cancer is the easiest to get rid of before it develops, yet body image is so powerful that as in the example above, many men do not have the confidence to face the fear.

If you want a link to join me, please reply. All you need to do is sign up, shave today, then grow a 'tache for a month; in doing so, you will inspire family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you to whatever target you set - perhaps up to £50 / £100. New for this year is 'move for Movember' - a fitness challenge where you set your own target; this sounds great for your girls as a chance to get involved, as most of you can't grow facial hair... but if any man doesn't fancy doing the grow, please consider the fitness challenge instead.

Putting myself out here again feels a bit vulnerable, especially as nobody may respond, but if you have at least got the subject in mind for the day, that is success in itself. If any of you are thinking you're needing support around you, get your workmates on board too - there is space!!!

Thank you for reading. Reply to this if you want the link. Much love x
