We‘ve teamed up with the legends at Pringles to help us all feel more confident talking about mental health and wellbeing.
Research commissioned by Pringles showed that almost half of Brits don’t know how to ask someone if they’re okay, whilst 72% of Brits believe the hardest part of mental health is talking about it with others – something that has resulted in almost one in five (18%) British men admitting they have never spoken to anyone about their mental health.
Together we’re on a mission to change this. In super markets across the UK, Movember cans of Pringles are on shelves, with Mr P’s Iconic Mo again replaced with a QR code leading to Movember Conversations, our tool to grow people’s confidence when having conversations about mental health.
In partnership with Pringles we launched a first-of-its-kind “Scan and Scran” Café. Patrons were invited to sample a range of British classics whilst learning more about how to have conversations about mental health. The café was for everyone but with a particular focus on supporting men in the construction industry, who are up to four times as likely to die by suicide than the general public.
To help us spread the word we enlisted the support of ex-tradesman and footballer Jimmy Bullard, he said:
“When I worked on site, no topic was off limits. So why is the conversation around where our heads are at such a taboo? Most likely because a lot of us don’t know how to start the conversation! That’s why I’m proud to be working with Pringles and Movember to guide the nation on how to get talking.. And where better than in the comfort of a British institution, the high street caff?”
Visitors to the café will also learn about the ALEC model. This is our model for tackling these tough conversations about mental health. ALEC is an acronym which stands for:
Ask – Ask them how they are what’s been happening lately
Listen – Listen and give them your full attention
Encourage Action – Encourage them to take action towards feeling better
Check in – Check in with them regularly after your chat
Want to get better at having conversations about mental health? Easy. Go to Movember Conversations and start practicing!
To date our partnership with Pringles has helped 142,000 people practice having these difficult conversations about mental health, and making us all feel more comfortable reaching out. Not only are Pringles helping us get better at having conversations about mental health, they have now also donated over £1m since the start of our partnership together in 2020. This money is helping us deliver more ground breaking programs so that we can change the face of Men’s Health.
