This November, leading men’s health organisation, Movember, returns as it takes over the UK’s most favoured sights with a series of temporary installations to mark the start of its month-long campaign. Now in its 19th year, the charity is calling on Mo Bros around the UK to band together to bravely sacrifice their upper lips in support of men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
The takeover sees popular attractions such as the home of British Grand Prix motorsport, Silverstone, Scotland based, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde Universities, and statues across the capital rocking a distinctive moustache, helping to inspire people far and wide to get involved with this year’s campaign. By signing up, raising funds, and encouraging men to talk more openly about their health, we can break through the stigmas and stop men from dying too young.
Movember’s Country Director for UK and Europe, Anne-Cecile Berthier, said: We are truly honoured to receive such great support in the lead up to campaign and to have so many industry-leading names eager to take part and help us spread awareness for men’s health.
Men’s health is particularly important to those in the motorsport industry and in full-time education. To have Silverstone, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde onboard this year really does help to amplify our message and to spread awareness of the bigger picture – men are dying too young and we really need more people to hear our message”.
In the UK, 3 out of 4 suicides are by men. 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and testicular cancer continues to be the most diagnosed cancer in young men.
To date, Movember has welcomed six million supporters and helped fund 1,250 innovative health projects across 20 countries. But we’re not done yet.
