We’re delighted that the Rugby League World Cup 2021 is going ahead as planned.
As we hit the 100-day countdown to the opening match of the tournament, we’re looking forward to fulfilling our role as official mental fitness partner for the tournament.
As part of RLWC2021 legacy programme, Movember and our delivery partner Rugby League Cares will be offering mental fitness training to all participating teams, support staff and tournament volunteers.
The official partnership with the RLWC 2021 tournament - the first ever international sporting event to have a mental health charter – has committed to delivering Ahead of The Game workshops to 8,000 teenagers in community clubs across RLWC2021’s host cities, as well as their parents and rugby league coaches.
Movember’s Ahead of The Game is a series of mental fitness workshops which have been proven to increase mental health literacy and boost resilience in athletes who take part.
During the two-hour workshops, young athletes aged between 12-18 learn how to identify signs of anxiety, depression and low mood in themselves and others. Parents and sports coaches are taught how to distinguish between potential problems and normal teenage behaviour.
Working with Rugby League Cares, the programme will be delivered by our squad of 13 professional and former professional players including New Zealand’s Robbie Hunter-Paul, England’s Keith Senior and Shaun Lunt.
