My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Prostate cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

I have two main motivations for raising money for Movember.
The first is that, through personal experience, I know more needs to be done to challenge the epidemic that is men's mental health -- and suicide prevention is incredibly important.
Secondly, my dad has prostate cancer -- so too did my grandfather -- and the experience has increased my understanding that prostate cancer needs tackling seriously.
In September 2018, my father told me he had been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He'd held off telling me for months as I had exams to do and grades to achieve to make my place at university. A *long* flash forward to 2022 and the world around us all is totally different... Except not much has changed, really.
My dad still hasn't received any update on the cancer -- which we know has spread -- and the knock on effect in every aspect of life is really felt.

Movember is a charity close to my heart. My battles with mental health make me aware of the need for better access for men to care and support - to prevent suicides and raise awareness of how to spot poor mental health in ourselves and others. My father’s prostate cancer diagnosis also brought to my attention that I am now 50% more likely to be diagnosed due to my family’s history. It’s already a 25% chance. Movember fights the good fight. We all love a bloke, or are a bloke and love ourselves, and that’s why Movember‘s mission is something we can all get behind.

I rowed 15130 m01:11:09

So we’re beyond the 200km point.

While it’s not been 10km per day. It’s pretty good going for someone working nights and with no physical fitness.

In context that would take me from my flat to just beyond Grantham - which is the first stop on the Kings Cross to Hull train…

2 days until Movember begins — which means only 1 day to Mo!

Just did 6km on the rowing machine in just shy of 30mins — still getting used to it.

Thanks for the donations so far - here’s to many painful kilometres!!
