Each year, brave and selfless companies across the business world, from the relatively small to some of the largest global corporations, come together as one and stand side by side, united in a commitment to fine moustachery and to changing the face of men’s health. Whether it’s a few colleagues at your office or companywide participation, Movember brings 30 days of fun, conversation and staff interaction to the workplace. The Movember journey requires commitment and during the month these Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for men’s health. No matter how big your Mo team, every moustache in the workplace helps Movember work towards achieving its vision - to have an everlasting impact on the state of men’s health.

Getting involved with Movember
Movember in the workplace is FUN and it’s this aspect which tends to drive participation. Growing a moustache is something that many people prefer to do as part of a group; they feel ‘safer’ and are more relaxed about potentially looking a little foolish for a month. It’s this journey over a month that really develops a great team dynamic and produces a true feeling of comradeship, which has made Movember so popular within the workforce around the globe.
By its very nature, Movember acts as an excellent team building exercise. Staff of all levels, in different departments, across offices and sites are bought together each year by the experience of growing a moustache. The result is some healthy competition - who can grow the best Mo, who can raise the most money, which department or site has the most people registered, combined with some gentle ribbing and immense pride the Mo Bros have in doing good with their moustache ensures that the office is kept lively and united; effortless team fun all in the name of men’s health.
The Movember website is designed to easily enable companies to take part in several different ways – you can set up one company team or register different teams based on departments or office locations and then link them under a company network page - great for national or international office rivalry - the Movember website brings everyone together to share the journey.
And, despite being a charity focused on raising the issue of men’s health, Movember isn’t just for the guys. Mo Sistas have been pivotal to our success and nowhere is this more evident than in the workplace; organising office parties, registering and captaining teams, fundraising and ensuring that costumes for the end of month Gala events are arranged is what makes Mo Sistas such an important part of Movember.

Delivering Health Messages to staff
Although a lot of fun, Movember has a very serious message to deliver. To ensure that this goal is achieved, we work closely with companies to ensure that they have the necessary information and tools to help spread positive health messages easily.

Keyline Builders Merchants

"Keyline Builders Merchants has 82 centres across the UK and over 30,000 customers within the Construction industry and saw the opportunity of supporting Movember and reinforcing our commitment to health and safety within the industry. We are proud of the campaign that was delivered for Movember and how we engaged with other corporate partners and Movember supporters during the month. We invested largely in the Movember campaign and for us the real achievement was the national awareness raised. The lasting legacy is the positive impact the campaign had on cementing our teams and connecting staff to our customer base." - James Ellis, Assistant Marketing Manager, Keyline.

Scottish Gas

"For the second successive year Scottish Gas was proud to be part of the Movember movement to support men’s health issues, particularly research into prostate cancer. It emerged throughout the month that a large majority of the Mo-bro’s and Mo-Sista’s from Scottish Gas who took part have friends and family who have been affected by the disease. Raising money for a worthwhile cause was the key driver for all those who got involved however each went on a different journey to achieve this. Securing funds from friends, family and colleagues, to visiting customers- all were glad to get involved. Being out and about in the local community raising awareness and promoting men’s health - I think we all really played a part in the campaign. During the lead up to Movember and for a long time afterwards the buzz in the office was really great. We have forged new friendships and worked well together to raise awareness and fund for this worthy cause. Roll on Movember 2011!" - Harry Kerr, Employment Engagement Team, Scottish Gas.

BlackRock UK
"Over eleven dozen employees downed their razors and cast aside their shaving cream to raise more than £86,700 for The Prostate Cancer Charity. In addition to raising awareness for this hugely important cause, Movember was the perfect opportunity for BlackRock employees to have fun, come together and achieve a fantastic sum of money for BlackRock’s charity of the year." - Claudia Ripley, Chairman of BlackRock's 2010 Charity Committee.
